His music is widely accepted as being “anointed, transparent, and refreshing”; three adjectives that undoubtedly are associated with restoration. With his first song ever rapped being a remix of the Cinderella Story which he performed in class, and accompanied by an encore from his peers, Akeem Brodie aka A. Brodie knew then that his desire was to pursue music. Born in Norfolk, VA and raised in the D.M.V. (D.C, Maryland, Virginia), A. Brodie grew up listening to lots of traditional gospel such as James Cleveland, The Clark Sisters, Shirley Caesar, and the Pace Sisters. “That’s all my mother played. I started recording Tupac and Nas on my mother’s cassettes. I don’t really listen to a lot of the newer music. I still keep it old school and listen to the Hip Hop artist from the 80’s and 90’s; WuTang, De La Soul, Jay, and the list goes on.”
Brodie received a prophecy many years ago concerning his music which was a strong influence in him becoming a Christ – centered rapper. Aside from the prophecy – which he originally wasn’t in tune with – He now believes that soul winning has become his greatest influence in continuation of his performances. “There was a prophecy over my life in 1994 that my ministry would be God driven music, but I ran the opposite way. I’ve always wrote positive lyrics but last year after realizing God is the only way. I wrote a love song to him “Agape Love” to express how much I adore him and from that one song came many more.” For 15 years now, A. Brodie has been a performing artist with his music covering themes such as trials, God’s glory, love, and breakthroughs.
He has truly caught the eyes and ears attention of many! “People can expect to experience word based (the bible) music that they can connect with. When they see me on stage they can also see themselves because of my transparency. I don’t hold back or hide anything. We can rap and have a good time together as well as worship.” With his music falling into genres such as Trinity Hop, Hip Hop, and Soul; he is a four time nominee for the 2016 Rhythm of Gospel Awards, and has one nomination for The Key of Gospel Awards as well!! He is walking by faith and believing he will attain all of these awards!! Brodie is yet learning how to balance his career and family as it is far from an easy task for many great artist such as himself.
Despite the limited funds at the moment, Brodie believes that he has conquered major obstacles and will continue to do so with much faith and the favor of God. Faith is a great attribute and favor is the accolade granted from God for Christ-centered artist such as Brodie and others walking in the same vein. We know that without faith it is impossible to please Him (Hebrews 11:6). It is also truth that if we walk in faith and trust God, His favor will rest on us and establish the work of our hands (Psalm 90:17). It is not Gods desire to withhold good things from us and because we are righteous; just like a shield, His favor will cover us (Psalm 84:11, Psalm 5:12). “I want to break all barriers to reach the masses” says Brodie. He encourages the youth of today to keep God first, believe in themselves, and never forget that they are a Child of the King! With great support from his family and others Brodie is able to continue doing what he loves!
